Physical Oceanographic Real-Time System

(P.O.R.T.S.)

Developed by a partnership between the Marine Exchange of the San Francisco Bay Region, the National Ocean Service and the Office of Spill Prevention and Response, P.O.R.T.S. is a 24 hour-a-day program which measures the currents, depth, salinity and wind in San Francisco and Suisun Bays. Measurements are taken every six (6) minutes, available by telephone or computer website. This data is particularly important to the safety of merchant shipping, recreational boaters, ferry boats, wind surfers and the whole range of users of the bays. Data is accessible via phone line at (866) 727-6787 or at the P.O.R.T.S. website. Access is FREE to anyone who needs this information just call or click the link above.

The Marine Exchange maintains the sytem's measurement and reporting network.The P.O.R.T.S. Maintenance Status page shows the status of the system and the progress of improvements.

P.O.R.T.S. Maintenance Status

Alan Steinbrugge of the Marine Exchange repairs and maintains the P.O.R.T.S. instruments and communications network in the Bay Area. He will be posting regular updates regarding the progress of his work.
