Organization Overview
The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is the state agency tasked with designing, constructing, maintaining, and operating California's massive public transportation infrastructure and State Highway System. While state policies originate from its headquarters in Sacramento, day-to-day operations across the nine-county San Francisco Bay Area are directly executed by Caltrans District 4, which is headquartered in Oakland.
