Organization Overview
The World Ocean Observatory (W2O) is a leading international non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for the health and sustainability of the ocean through a global network of communication and education. Founded in 2004 by environmental author and maritime expert Peter Neill, the organization was inspired by a landmark 1998 report titled "The Ocean: Our Future" by the Independent World Commission on the Ocean. Headquartered in Sedgwick, Maine, W2O operates primarily as a web-based clearinghouse and media hub designed to build a global community of proactive "Citizens of the Ocean".
